Making Moving and Transporting Your Sofa Simple

Moving your lounge suite doesn’t have to be difficult. Many Synargy designs are thoughtfully constructed so the seat backs can be removed, making transport through doorways, hallways and staircases far easier - all without the need for any special tools.

Follow the steps below to safely and smoothly remove the backrests when needed.

If you prefer video instructions, take a look at our YouTube video of these steps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HfVkQwHkMQ

1. Unplug any Electrical Connections

If your Synargy lounge suite has electrical features such as powered recline, headrest, charging stations etc - first ensure your lounge suite is powered down by switching it off at the wall outlet and unplugging the power cable.

---

2. Access the Connection Points

Start by lifting the fabric flap at the back of the seat. This will give you clear access to the connection brackets underneath. If your lounge suite does have electrical features as mentioned earlier, make sure all electrical connections between the seat back and seat base are fully disconnected before continuing.

---

3. Locate the Posts and Receivers

Each seat back is secured using two metal connection points on each side of the backrest:

  • Metal posts on the seat base

  • Metal receivers on the seat back

These receivers are designed with a release tab, allowing the backrest to be removed when needed.

---

4. Release the Seat Back

To remove the seat back:

  • Pull the release tabs outward on the receivers

  • At the same time, lift upward on the seat back

This motion disengages the seat back from the posts. If it feels firm, that’s normal - the system is designed to lock securely during everyday use. It may take some gentle shaking left to right to help the posts & receivers to disengage.

⚠️ Note: Be very careful of hands, fingers and fingernails when working with the release tabs.

Once the posts and receivers have disengaged, you can lift the backrest up and away from the seat base, and set it aside or place it on top of the corresponding seat on the base.

⚠️ Tip: Seat backs can be heavy, especially on larger lounges or models with additional features such as massaging backrests. If needed, ask someone to help lift while you operate the release tabs. Be careful of your head when pulling the backrest away from the seat base.

---

5. Repeat as Needed

Once the first backrest has been removed, simply repeat the same process for each remaining seat back until your lounge suite is ready to move.

Removing the seat backs helps protect your furniture, your home, and your back during transport. When it’s time to reassemble, the backs simply slide back into place using the same secure connection system. See here for our helpful guide on how to attach the seat backs to the base.
